DATEV and AI: Is there an MCP server for DATEV?

DATEV from Nuremberg, Germany, is software for accounting, payroll and practice management, used by tax advisory firms and their clients. If you want an AI assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT to work with DATEV data, the first question is: is there an MCP server for it?

In short

We found no official MCP server from DATEV. But there are community servers on GitHub and commercial offers. DATEV itself offers APIs through its Developer Portal and its own AI features such as DATEV Copilot.

What DATEV offers itself

APIs. The DATEV Developer Portal offers online APIs and desktop APIs. According to DATEV, the APIs are also meant for AI-based applications. According to DATEV, an app starts in a sandbox and goes into production only after an acceptance by DATEV.

AI in the product. DATEV lists several AI features, for example DATEV Copilot and booking suggestions. According to DATEV, DATEV Copilot runs in its own area at Microsoft Azure in a European data centre. Neither Microsoft nor OpenAI use the data for training.

What the community and vendors offer

• According to its README, ppronobis/datev-mcp-server works locally with DATEV export files (EXTF) and only reads.
• Klardaten offers a commercial MCP server through DATEVconnect, with read and selected write rights.
• Further vendors such as belege.ai, Apideck and AnythingMCP have DATEV connectors. We did not test them.

What this means for your company

DATEV data is accounting and often payroll data. So:

• Start with reading, for example open items and balances. Writing bookings is a separate step with its own approval.
• Agree with your tax advisor which route fits: export files, DATEVconnect at the firm or the online APIs.
• For commercial offers, check where the data is processed.
