Vercel

Run Next.js applications without infrastructure effort – with a preview for every change.

dectria runs Next.js applications on Vercel, in client and in-house projects. Vercel develops Next.js itself, so Server Components, caching and middleware work there without extra configuration.

Every change gets its own preview deployment. This lets you check new features at their own address before they go live. For European projects, we move server functions to the Frankfurt region, because Vercel runs them in the US by default.

If data should not pass through a US provider, we run Next.js on our own servers in the EU instead.

What is Vercel – and when is it worth it?

Vercel is a hosting platform for frontends and web applications and the company behind Next.js. It builds projects directly from Git, delivers them through a global network and runs server logic as functions.

Vercel is worth it for Next.js applications where your team should focus on the product rather than servers. It is less worth it when data must stay strictly in the EU with a European provider, or for applications with consistently high load – your own server is often cheaper there.

FAQ

Vercel FAQ

Why does dectria recommend Vercel for Next.js?
Because Vercel develops Next.js itself and new features run there without additional configuration. Preview deployments for every change shorten acceptance cycles considerably. If data location or cost speak against it, we run Next.js on our own servers.
Can Next.js be hosted without Vercel?
Yes. Next.js runs in Docker containers on your own servers, on Azure or on other platforms. Most features work the same there, but caching needs its own configuration. We set it up so that it runs reliably without Vercel's infrastructure.
Can Vercel run in the EU?
Partly. Server functions run in Washington, D.C. by default but can be moved to Frankfurt – we always do this for European projects. Vercel remains a US company. If data demonstrably must not pass through a US provider, self-hosting in the EU is the right solution.
Which Vercel plan fits business projects?
According to Vercel, the free Hobby plan is only for personal, non-commercial projects. Business projects need at least the Pro plan, and the Enterprise plan for special security and support requirements. Costs depend on usage and team size; we estimate them upfront based on your expected traffic.
