Render

Run backends, databases and background jobs without worrying about servers.

dectria runs backends, APIs, background jobs and databases on Render – for projects that need more than frontend hosting but no DevOps team of their own.

Campivio, a booking platform for campsites in which dectria holds a stake, runs on Render.

For European projects, we use the Frankfurt region. Deployments run directly from Git, and we describe configuration and services as code in a render.yaml.

What is Render – and when is it worth it?

Render is a cloud platform where web services, background jobs, cron jobs, PostgreSQL databases and key-value stores run with little configuration. It builds directly from Git or from a Dockerfile.

Render is worth it for full-stack applications with a backend, database and jobs, when Vercel would be too frontend-focused and Azure too complex. It is less worth it when data must be hosted by a European provider – Render is a US company – or when you need regions outside its offering.

Use Cases

Typical Use Cases

Backends & APIs

Node.js and Docker-based backends with automatic deployments, health checks and zero-downtime releases.

Background Jobs & Scheduled Tasks

Workers for queues and cron jobs for recurring tasks that run next to the API on the same platform.

FAQ

Render FAQ

When does dectria recommend Render instead of Vercel or Azure?
For applications with a backend, database and background jobs, where Vercel would be too frontend-focused and Azure too complex. Render provides the necessary building blocks with little configuration. If Microsoft integration comes first, Azure remains the better choice.
Can Render run Docker containers?
Yes. Render builds applications directly from a Dockerfile and runs them with health checks and zero-downtime deployments. We use this for applications with special runtime requirements or custom build steps.
Can Render be operated in the EU?
Yes, via the Frankfurt region: services and databases then run in Germany. Render itself is a US company. The region cannot be changed later for existing services, so we set it at the start of the project.
How does Render scale?
Web services can be spread across several instances manually or automatically based on CPU and memory usage. For most business applications, this is more than enough. For very high latency requirements or global distribution, we evaluate alternatives.
