Lexware Office, formerly lexoffice, is cloud bookkeeping for freelancers and small companies in Germany. If you want an AI assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT to work with invoices and receipts, the first question is: is there an MCP server for it?
In short
We found no official MCP server from Lexware. But there are several open-source servers based on the Public API. According to Lexware, the API is available from version XL.
What Lexware offers itself
The Public API. According to Lexware, the Public API is available from Lexware Office version XL. The documentation describes a REST API that signs in with an API key from your own account.
Data location. According to Lexware, the data sits in a German high-security data centre.
AI in the product. Lexware describes automatic suggestions that match receipts and payments and propose bookings. The user confirms the suggestions.
What the community offers
- According to its README, JannikWempe/mcp-lexware-office covers large parts of the API and writes only after you explicitly enable it.
- According to its README, marselsel/Lexware-MCP-Server runs as a remote server with OAuth 2.1 and so also works in Claude and ChatGPT. Environment variables control which tools are active, for example creating drafts.
What this means for your company
- A finalised invoice cannot simply be taken back. Let the assistant create drafts at most.
- Create a separate API key for the MCP server, so you can block it at any time.
- Review a community server yourself before you use it, or run your own.
