RZL and AI: Is there an MCP server for RZL?

RZL Software by RZL Software GmbH from Tumeltsham in Upper Austria is software for accounting, payroll and practice management, for companies and tax advisory firms. If you want an AI assistant such as Claude, ChatGPT or Microsoft Copilot to work with RZL data, the first question is: is there an MCP server for it?

In short

We found no official MCP server from RZL and no community server. RZL offers its own AI feature, RZL KI Belegdatenerkennung (AI receipt recognition). We found no public interface through which an external assistant can read RZL data.

What RZL offers itself

AI in the product. On its home page, RZL announces RZL KI Belegdatenerkennung as “available now”. According to the product page (German), RZL uploads the receipts to Microsoft Azure, fetches the recognised data and deletes the receipts there again. The page does not name the region. There is also a local AI model per client that suggests the offset account.

Interfaces. According to the FIBU brochure (German), RZL imports bookings, balances, personal accounts and open items through its own interfaces. There are also freely definable imports, for example in DATEV format, and a hogast interface that RZL charges as an add-on module.

Operation. The programs run in your own environment or in the RZL Cloud data centre. According to the technical sheet (German), you access RZL Cloud through the Citrix Workspace app, so through a remote desktop and not through a cloud API.

Partner connections. As an alternative, RZL offers the module Finmatics Connect für RZL (German), by Finmatics GmbH from Vienna. According to Finmatics (German), the data exchange uses a bidirectional API. It is not publicly documented.

A commercial connector. The vendor WorkAist advertises an MCP connector for RZL. The page lists the same six tools as for other accounting programs and does not describe which interface the connector uses to reach RZL. We did not test it.

What this means for an AI connection

An AI assistant needs an MCP server, and the MCP server needs an interface to read data from. RZL’s documented interfaces are imports. This means:

• Bringing data into RZL works through the described import formats.
• Reading data out of RZL for an assistant is not covered by the public documents.
• With RZL Cloud, the programs also run through Citrix and are not reachable as a service on the network.

Clarify first: whether RZL offers a read interface or an export for your version, what it costs, and where RZL KI Belegdatenerkennung processes the data. RZL can answer that.
