Status: October 2026. Checked against the vendor’s own sources, listed below.

SAP Business One is an ERP for small and mid-sized businesses, run in your own environment or by a partner in the cloud. If you want an AI assistant such as Claude or GitHub Copilot to work with Business One data, the first question is: is there an MCP server for it?

In short

Yes, but as sample code. From version 10.0 FP 2608, SAP ships an MCP server to download that you run yourself. It can read and write, but asks before every write.

What SAP offers itself

The MCP server as sample code. According to SAP Help, it makes the Service Layer usable for AI assistants. Almost all OData objects are available as tools. It can read, create, update and delete, and it knows workflows such as order, delivery and invoice. Before write operations and sensitive reads it asks for a confirmation in the AI client. It redacts personal data fields automatically. For production it supports OAuth.

The Service Layer. The Service Layer API is a REST/OData interface of your own installation, not a public cloud service.

AI in the product. According to SAP Help, the web client has an “Ask AI” app and generates queries with AI. We did not find in the help where SAP processes the data for them.

What the community offers

  • According to its README, bersimao/b1-mcp-server offers SQL queries read-only and Service Layer writes through separate tools.
  • According to its README, Amz34/sap-mcp blocks write tools until you explicitly enable them.

What this means for your company

  • The sample code is a good starting point, but not a finished product. Operation, updates and hardening are up to you or your partner.
  • The MCP server runs next to the Service Layer, so in your environment. Clarify how AI assistants reach it safely from outside.
  • Start with reading. The confirmation before writing helps, but does not replace planning the rights.
