Severa by Visma Solutions from Finland is software for project management, time tracking and invoicing in professional services companies (PSA). If you want an AI assistant such as Claude, ChatGPT or Microsoft Copilot to work with Severa data, the first question is: is there an MCP server for it?
In short
We found no official MCP server from Visma. But there is a documented REST API and two community servers on GitHub that build on it. Both are young and not from Visma.
What Severa offers itself
A REST API. Severa documents a REST API with OAuth 2.0. In Severa, an administrator creates credentials under Settings > REST API, up to ten of them, and chooses the permissions (scopes). According to the docs, the menu item is only visible if the “Severa REST API” upgrade is enabled.
AI in the product. According to the Severa help, Severa AI is a pilot in the new beta interface. Severa AI answers questions about working hours, projects and resource planning and suggests time entries that the user confirms. It only sees what the user may see, and according to the help, Severa does not use conversations automatically for training, but reviews them manually for quality.
What the community offers
- generoi/severa-mcp runs as a remote MCP server on Cloudflare Workers. Sign-in goes through Google Workspace. Write tools are off by default, and the token then has read rights only. It was built for the staff of the company Genero, and no licence is stated.
- borgels/mcp-server-severa is an MCP server in TypeScript under the Apache 2.0 licence. It reads first. Writing needs an explicit opt-in and a reason per change; deleting needs a further approval. The project is very new.
- Zapier and viaSocket offer Severa actions through their hosted MCP servers (Zapier, viaSocket). The data then passes through that provider.
What this means for an AI connection
Technically, Severa is easy to connect, because the API is documented and permissions are set per set of credentials. For use in a company:
- Create separate credentials for the MCP server, with read scopes only.
- Review a community server yourself before you use it, or run your own.
- Ask Visma whether the “Severa REST API” upgrade is part of your contract.
