Salesforce is a CRM platform for sales, service and marketing. If you want an AI assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT to work with accounts, leads and opportunities, the first question is: is there an MCP server for it?
In short
Yes. Salesforce runs hosted MCP servers, generally available for Enterprise Edition and above according to Salesforce. An admin enables each server on its own. Read, change and delete are separate servers.
What Salesforce offers itself
Hosted MCP servers. According to Salesforce, they are generally available for every org on Enterprise Edition and above. The developer docs say they are intended only for customers with Flex Credits. Clarify this with your Salesforce contact before you start. The standard servers are disabled at first. According to the servers reference, there are separate servers for reading and querying records, for creating and updating, and for deleting.
Rights. According to the FAQ, the assistant gets exactly the rights of the person who signs in. Object rights, field-level security and sharing rules still apply. No language model runs on the Salesforce side of the MCP server.
The local DX server. According to its README, the local Salesforce DX MCP Server for developers reaches end of life on 2 November 2026.
APIs. Besides the REST API, there are Bulk, Metadata and GraphQL interfaces, among others.
What the community offers
advancedcommunities/salesforce-mcp-server uses the Salesforce CLI. According to its README, it has a read-only mode that, among other things, prevents running Apex. This mode is off by default.
What this means for your company
- Start with the read server. Enable change and delete only once you know what for.
- The assistant sees what the user sees. Review profiles and sharing rules before you start.
- Clarify the costs before teams use the server every day.
