Odoo is modular business software (ERP) from Odoo S.A. with apps for sales, accounting, inventory and more. If you want Claude or ChatGPT to work with the data in Odoo, the first question is: is there an MCP server for it?

In short

Yes. Odoo describes an official MCP server in its own documentation since version 20. It sits in the Odoo AI chapter. Odoo also describes it for Odoo Online saas-19.4. We found no page for it in the Odoo 19.0 documentation. The documentation does not label it beta or preview. According to Odoo, installing the AI app on the Standard plan triggers an upsell to Custom.

What Odoo offers itself

The MCP server. According to the Odoo documentation, an external AI agent connects through the database address plus /mcp. The release notes for Odoo 20 list the item “Connect Odoo to anything”. According to Odoo, Odoo 20 was released in September 2026. According to Odoo, Odoo Online saas-19.4 exists only on Odoo Online.

Sign-in. In the Odoo 20 documentation, Odoo recommends OAuth. It works only for internal users. Portal users need an API key. Only approved clients may request access. The saas-19.4 page knows only the API key. It gets the scope MCP. According to Odoo, enabling dynamic client registration lets any application register as a client. Each connection appears as an API key in the user’s preferences. If the user deletes the key, access ends. With OAuth, the client needs only the address with /mcp, for example in Claude Code and ChatGPT. With an API key, the documentation requires Node.js, because the client connects through npx mcp-remote, for example in Claude Desktop.

Tools and rights. By default, the database provides five tools: start context, models, fields, search and grouping. The rest is enabled in developer mode under Settings ‣ Technical ‣ Server Actions, for example creating and updating records. The list also holds tools for website styling and images. It names no delete tools. According to the documentation, the API key proves the identity and permissions of the user in the database. According to the documentation, the “Get Models” tool lists the models the user may access. For the tools of the AI agents, Odoo IAP states this principle explicitly. The documentation does not say whether every MCP tool enforces the permissions. Check it yourself.

Plans. According to the Odoo documentation, installing the AI app on the Standard plan automatically triggers an upsell to the Custom plan. The pricing page lists “Agentic AI” only on the Custom plan. According to the release notes for version 20, Odoo’s AI features need IAP credits. The documentation does not say whether the MCP route consumes credits. The documentation describes the MCP server as part of Odoo AI and lists it in the AI chapter. The upsell warning appears only on the “AI” page for Odoo 20, not on the MCP pages. The documentation does not say whether the MCP server requires the AI app, or whether Community or Enterprise contains it. In the public Odoo source code (odoo/odoo, branches 20.0 and saas-19.4), we found no ai module and no mcp module on 2026-11-03. We could not read the odoo/enterprise repository without access. We found no statement from Odoo on this. The question stays open.

The external API. Since Odoo 19 there is the JSON-2 API at /json/2 with an API key. XML-RPC and JSON-RPC are deprecated. The db service was removed in Odoo 20. The common and object services are scheduled for removal in Odoo 22 (fall 2028) and Odoo Online 21.1 (winter 2027). According to Odoo, the external API is available only on the Custom plan, not on One App Free and Standard.

Data location for Odoo Online. According to the privacy policy, a database lives in the hosting region closest to the customer. Customers can request a region change, subject to availability. The Europe region uses France and Belgium for production. For new customers on version 19.0 or later, backups are in France, the Netherlands and Sweden. According to Odoo, other customers in Europe also have a backup in Canada until about Q4 2026. Backup locations cannot be chosen. For Odoo’s own AI, Odoo IAP names OpenAI and Google as providers, with global processing (“Inference Residency: global”). Since version 20, Odoo picks the provider itself, according to Odoo IAP. With an external assistant, the terms of that assistant’s provider apply.

What the community and third parties offer

ivnvxd/mcp-server-odoo is an open-source server under MPL-2.0. According to its README, it runs locally by default (stdio) and optionally as an HTTP server. According to the README, the HTTP transport has no built-in authentication. For production use, it requires an add-on module in Odoo (version 16.0 or later). A “YOLO mode” bypasses access control and uses the external API (XML-RPC or JSON-2). The README limits it to development and testing. According to the README, the server can also delete. There is also erpipe-org/mcp-odoo, open source too (MIT), with a hosted offer (ERPipe) from the same author.

On Odoo Apps, much. Consulting offers an MCP Server module, a third-party module. It is not from Odoo. The listing names versions 16.0 to 20.0, the license OPL-1 and availability on Odoo Online, Odoo.sh and On Premise. The ivnvxd README points to this module. We did not read its source code.

Platforms such as viaSocket also connect Odoo to assistants. The page lists 15 actions, including opportunities, leads and contacts. Zapier offers an “Odoo CRM MCP” with three actions: create lead, find contact, find opportunity. Both pages come from the platforms. They do not prove how the platforms connect to Odoo.

What this means for your company

  • Check your plan. According to Odoo, the AI app triggers an upsell to Custom on the Standard plan. Ask Odoo whether this also applies to the MCP server and whether your edition includes it.
  • On an Odoo 19.0 database, you need an upgrade or a third-party option.
  • Enable write tools one by one, not across the board.
  • The assistant reads your business data. What reaches it falls under its provider’s terms, no longer under Odoo’s.
