Microsoft Dynamics 365 offers CRM apps with Sales and Customer Service that run on Dataverse. If you want an AI assistant such as Claude, ChatGPT or Copilot to work with this data, you quickly ask: is there an MCP server? Business Central, Microsoft’s ERP, has its own page: Business Central.
In short
Yes. Microsoft names three official MCP servers: one for Dataverse, one for Sales and one for Customer Service. According to Microsoft, the Customer Service server has been generally available since 30 July 2026 and the Sales server since 29 October 2026. For the Dataverse server, Microsoft names the endpoint /api/mcp as generally available and /api/mcp_preview as preview. An admin must approve access. Costs can arise through Copilot Credits.
What Microsoft offers
The Dataverse server. According to Microsoft Learn, it lives at https://{org}.crm.dynamics.com/api/mcp. It gives access to tables and records in Dataverse. The Sales guide points to it for record operations. According to Microsoft, Sales and Customer Service run on Dataverse. search_data appears only if Dataverse search is active in the environment. The tool list names, among others, search_data, read_query, create_record, update_record, delete_record, create_table, delete_table and invoke_api. According to the FAQ, the endpoint /api/mcp_preview holds additional preview tools that can change without notice. Microsoft renamed and removed tools, for example list_tables and fetch. Anyone who keeps tools in an allow or deny list must review it. According to the FAQ, the user’s Dataverse security roles apply.
The Sales server. According to the Microsoft Dynamics 365 Blog, the “Dynamics 365 CX MCP Server - Sales” has 59 tools for opportunities, leads, accounts, activities, pricing, quotes and orders. It runs through the Agent 365 Tooling Gateway, hosted by Microsoft. According to the guide, configuration needs the System Administrator role. Microsoft Entra ID signs the user in, and access follows the Dataverse permissions.
The Customer Service server. According to the Microsoft Dynamics 365 Blog, the “Dynamics 365 CX MCP Server - Service” has more than 90 tools for cases, customer context, knowledge articles, emails and recommendations. According to the guide, configuration needs the System Administrator or Omnichannel Administrator role. Use needs the Customer Service Representative or CSR Manager role.
An older Sales server. An older guide (as of 17 July 2026) describes a Sales server at msdyn_SalesMCPServer. We found no statement from Microsoft on whether it keeps running next to the new server. The two guides describe different versions.
Clients. For Sales and Customer Service, Microsoft names in the guides Copilot Studio and clients with OAuth discovery: Visual Studio Code, GitHub Copilot CLI, Cursor, ChatGPT and Claude Code. The older Sales guide says: “Claude Desktop isn’t supported at this time.” For the Dataverse server, Microsoft names Claude Desktop and Claude Code. They connect through the local proxy @microsoft/dataverse or through a custom Entra app.
Approval. According to Microsoft, the Dataverse server is active only for Copilot Studio by default. A Power Platform admin enables further clients per environment. For Sales and Customer Service, a tenant admin must consent to the gateway in advance. Microsoft notes that data can leave the Dynamics 365 FedRAMP High boundary this way. It is then subject to the terms of the destination service.
Billing. According to the FAQ, Microsoft has billed Dataverse tools since 15 December 2025 when AI agents outside Copilot Studio use them. According to the FAQ, with a qualifying Dynamics 365 Premium license or a Microsoft 365 Copilot license, there is no charge for Dynamics 365 data. The licensing guide names the Premium license (Sales Premium, Customer Service Premium and others) for this and the Microsoft 365 Copilot license for other data. According to the guide, Copilot Studio adds no charge for running MCP tools. According to the tool list, Microsoft bills search_data like tenant graph grounding and all other tools at the rate for text and generative AI tools. The older Sales guide and the Sales overview also name Copilot Credits. According to the overview, certain Sales licenses carry no credit charge. The guides for the new Sales and Service servers name no billing. We found no separate statement from Microsoft on it.
An API. According to Microsoft, the Dataverse Web API implements the OData protocol, version 4.0, a REST interface. With it, you can work with data and with table and column definitions in Dataverse.
AI in the product. Microsoft describes agents, Copilot and AI features in the Dynamics 365 apps. According to Microsoft, Sales, Customer Service and Customer Insights are model-driven apps that run on Dataverse. According to the Microsoft Dynamics 365 Blog, the Service Agent in Microsoft 365 Copilot has been generally available since 30 June 2026.
Data region. We did not read a statement from Microsoft on the data region of the MCP servers. The page therefore sets no EU value.
What the community offers
On GitHub, Microsoft lists Dataverse-skills, with skills for AI agents that use the Dataverse MCP server. The repository microsoft/Dataverse-MCP holds only labs, no server. The community has several open-source servers for the Dataverse Web API. Examples are rededis/dataverse-mcp-server (MIT license, npm package, last push 2026-10-31) and ryanmichaeljames/dataverse-mcp (MIT license, PyPI package, last push 2026-10-28). According to their READMEs, both query records and change schemas. According to its README, mwhesse/dataverse-mcp (MIT license, last commit 2025-08-15) mainly changes schemas: tables, columns and relationships. We did not test these servers. Claude also lists a Dataverse plugin for coding agents that uses the official Dataverse MCP server. The plugin page lists installs for Claude Code. Commercial vendors also offer connectors. According to Zapier, there is an MCP server for Microsoft Dynamics 365 CRM, where one MCP call uses 2 tasks of the Zapier plan. According to viaSocket, there is an MCP server for Microsoft Dynamics CRM with six actions. These pages do not show which permissions the connectors use.
What this means for your company
- First decide which data the assistant may see. Access follows the user’s Dataverse roles.
- The Dataverse server can delete rows and tables. Approve only the clients you need.
- Plan for the consent of a tenant admin and a review of the Copilot Credit costs.
- Check where the data is processed before you connect Dynamics 365 to an assistant outside Microsoft.
